Historical NoteReturn to Top

Kruegel Hall finished construction in 1956 on the campus of the State College of Washington. Connected via a lounge to McAllister Hall, this complex went by name of “K-Mac” for short. The building was dedicated after William C. Kruegel, who was the bursar for the school. Kruegel financed the Pullman Community Building Company, a nonprofit organization that was created to build residence halls. Kruegel Hall was demolished in 2024-2025.

Arrangement

Two scrapbooks are stored flat in one box.

Acquisition Information

Sara Refsland, office manager in WSU Housing and Residence Life, donated this collection to the Washington State University Libraries on January 15, 2025, where it was retained without an accession number. It had been in storage in various Orton Hall locations for years.

Processing Note

WSU student Steinar Goheen Steinar Goheen processed this collection in February 2025. Scrapbooks possessed low states of structural integrity, and were unbound. The original order of pages was retained. Loose photos were matched to scrapbooks using given context clues.

Separated Materials

Materials from WSU dormitories Kruegel Hall, East House (Archives 420), and Orton Hall (Archives 422) were all received together, but processed separately. A single Waller Hall calendar was incorporated into Archives 339. A few remaining unmatched photos were returned to the donor.

Related Materials

House meeting minutes, handbooks, and similar student administration materials for Kruegel Hall can be found in Washington State University Kruegel-McAllister Hall Records, 1964-1974 (Archives 146).
