Historical Note

Since four years after its 1890 founding, Washington State University participated in intercollegiate football. Filming of those competitions began in the 1920s and continues today.

Content Description

The collection consists of films of Washington State University (earlier State College of Washington) football games from 1950-1987. The material formats are: Film on standard reels sizes (Series 1), Film on large reel sizes (Series 2); and Video tape (Series 3). The bulk of the material are game films, but practice sessions, scrimmage games, and related activities, along with a few unidentified games, are found at the end of each series. In 2005, a few additional films from WSU Radio-TV Services were added as Series 4.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

Films and video tapes of football games have been arranged in three series by format, and a later acquisition added as a seperate forth series, all arranged chronologically. The third video tape series is divided into 2 subseries, by tape type, and then chronologically.

Acquisition Information

Films and video tapes of Washington State University football teams and their games were transferred to the Washington State University Libraries by the Athletics Department in 1991 (UA91-14). These items were separated from a larger body of films, chiefly of basketball games.

In 2005 an additional transfer of film from WSU Radio-TV Services was added to the collection.

Processing Note

This collection was processed by Stephen Charry in July, 1991.
