Biographical Note
Ruth Eleanor Kirk was born Ruth Eleanor Kratz on May 7, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. She was an author of books on Northwest natural history and ethnography and a photographer. Her husband, Louis Gladwin Kirk Jr. (1921-1992), was a National Parks ranger. After the death of Mr. Kirk in 1992, Ruth moved to Olympia, Washington. She married her friend of 40 years, Dr. Richard D. Daugherty (1922-2014), an archeologist, and moved to Panorama, a retirement community in Lacey, Washington. Together, they combined their knowledge and skills in writing "Archaeology in Washington" which was published in 2007. She was a writer, photographer, and filmmaker on Pacific Northwest natural history and ethnography.
