Historical Note

The Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs was formed in 1927, when members of Oregon's local garden clubs met in Salem to form a statewide organization. The first president was Mrs. W. E. Anderson of Salem. In the period when the records in this collection were created, the organization promoted horticulture, civic and highway beautification, and the preservation of historic trees.

Content Description

This collection includes records of the Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs from 1925-1985. These include minutes of general meetings and Executive Board meetings; files on Heritage Trees for individual districts in the state; photographs of trees; a small quantity of general correspondence; and ephemera. Also included are materials relating to the Oregon Roadside Council.
