Historical NoteReturn to Top
Ruth Adams Knight (1898-1974) was born in Defiance, Ohio. A writer from her early years, she enrolled in Toledo University and was one of a group of students recruited to work for the Toledo Times in 1918 during World War I. She went on to have a career as a journalist in Toledo; she continued this career from 1929 in New York City. There she became interested in radio and became a prolific scriptwriter. She created the serial "Brave Tomorrow", and also wrote for shows such as "Cavalcade of America". At the same time she wrote non-fiction books, plays, and articles, and later returned to ficiton writing. She wrote adult novels such as Women Must Weep; and young adult novels such as Valiant Comrades. By the 1950s she was also doing television scriptwriting. Married three times, she had two children and died in July of 1974.
