- Albert and Vera Cuglietta were Italian Americans who lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. Albert worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad for almost 50 years and Vera served in the secretarial pool for the Secretary of State from 1963 until 1980 or 1981. They enjoyed traveling to together and photographed many historical sites in Italy, Romania, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Japan, Bali, and Hong Kong. This collection consists primarily of family photographs and photographs taken by the Cugliettas of their travels.

Historical NoteReturn to Top
Albert Bernardine Cuglietta was born on March 29, 1919 in Salt Lake City to Joseph and Fortunata Marrelli Cuglietta. Albert married to Vera Colobella on May 27, 1940. Albert worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad almost 50 years as a carman and served as Local Chairman and Vice President of the Local Carman Union. He was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Vera served in the secretarial pool for the Secretary of State from 1963 until 1980 or 1981.
They enjoyed traveling together and photographed many historical sites in Italy, Romania, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Japan, Bali, and Hong Kong.
Albert Cuglietta died on October 27, 2012. Vera Cuglietta died on January 16, 2016.

The Albert and Vera Cuglietta photograph collection consists of 8 boxes containing photographs, slides, negatives and contact prints documenting the lives, careers, and travels of Albert B. and Vera Colobella Cuglietta. The bulk of the photogrpah collection consists of travel photographs; locations include: Italy, Romania, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Japan, Bali, Hong Kong. Additionally, there are photographs of gravestones, memorials and mausoleums documenting their personal family history in Italy. Photographs dating form the 1940s-1960s include formal portraits of immediate and extended family including the Granato family and other notable local Italian Americans.

The collection was organized chronologically. Many folders contain negatives and their corresponding photographs. Some folders were taken from albums and kept in the same order. Box 8 contains oversized photographs.
