Historical Note

The Oregon Multicultural Archives (OMA) assists in preserving the histories and sharing the stories that document Oregon's African American, Asian American, Latino/a, and Native American communities. Established in 2005, the OMA highlights multicultural collections already held in the Special Collections and Archives Research Center, serves as a digital resource linking researchers to other institutions or organizations with multicultural archival collections, and builds an archive with records that document Oregon's multicultural communities to reflect how they have contributed to the identity of the state of Oregon.

Content Description

This collection pertains to multicultural communites both at Oregon State University and across Oregon. The collection contains, but is not limited to, information on the following: campus cultural centers, student solidarity movements, offices and committees dedicated to diversity on campus, building information, protests and unrest pertaining to multicultural communities, and student groups and associations.

Acquisition Information

This collection was created by Natalia Fernández, curator and archivist of the Oregon Multicultural Archives. The bulk of the materials were originally in the Oregon State University Memorabilia Collection. They were removed in 2017 to create the OMCRC, with additional materials collected and added by Fernández.

Future Additions

Additions to the collection are expected.

This collection is a component of the Oregon Multicultural Archives (OMA). Other related collections include the Oregon Multicultural Archives Oral History Collection, 2011-2016 and the Oregon State University Memorabilia Collection, ca. 1860-present, which is another artificial collection containing items of interest about Oregon State University and to a lesser extent, the city of Corvallis, and the state of Oregon. The Oregon Multicultural Archives Digital Collection consists of images that document the lives and activities of ethnic minorities in Oregon.
