Historical Note
Robert Percival Porter was a journalist and economist. Born in England, he immigrated to the United States for his health. He began his journalism career in 1872 with the Chicago “Inter-Ocean”. He founded the “New York Press” with Frank Hatton in 1887. Porter became an expert in commerce and industry and traveled throughout the world conducting industrial investigations.
