Historical Note

Utah State University Spirit Squad is a non-competitive dance and cheer team that performs at all major sporting events. The Spirit Squad includes the Aggiettes, Cheer, and the mascot Big Blue. The Spirit Squad operates under the Division of Student Affairs as part of the Student Involvement and Leadership.

Aggiette History The Utah State University Aggiettes, the State of Utah's first dance drill team, were created by Jackie Fuller in the early 1950s. Originally sponsored by the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation department, the Aggiettes quickly became a staple of USU traditions and performed at many USU events, including the Robbin's Awards, 'A Night with the Aggies', and later as part of the Student Entertainment Services. The Aggiettes also did performances for halftime shows at the Los Angeles Lakers' home games and NFL games. In the late 1970s, the Aggiettes were also heavily involved in the popular dinner show, "An Evening with Glenn Miller", a popular USU dinner show based on the famous Glenn Miller.

Cheer Squad History Cheerleading first started at USU in the 1930s with two young men chosen to be a cheerleader/yell-leader or a song leader. Cheerleading squads didn't begin until the late 1940's, with USU introducing its own cheerleading squad, made up of mostly women, in the 1950s.
