Historical NoteReturn to Top

The office of Facilities and Planning did not exist as a full-time staffed administrative department at WSU until 1947. Prior to this a University Architect served as the construction officer of WSU dating to 1911. Facilities and Planning was later renamed as Facilities and Development in 1993, and then as Capital Planning in 2001. The office of Facilities Operations descended from the Physical Plant in 1998, which in turn descended from Building and Grounds in 1967. While each line of programs has existed separately some migration in function has occurred over the years.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Arrangement

The manuals have been removed form binders but otherwise remain complete and unadjusted. They are organized by campus building number.

Acquisition Information

This material was transferred to WSU Libraries' MASC by Rick Ward of Facilities on March 20, 2004 and retained as UA2004-02.

Processing Note

WSU student Steinar Goheen processed this collection in April 2025.

Separated Materials

Architectural product brochures and cutsheets were removed from the collection during processing and discarded.

Various photos which came with, but are unrelated to, these operations and maintenance manuals were separated and processed separately as Washington State University Physical Plant Photographs, 1941-1997 (PC 214).

Photos of commencement arrangements were separated and refiled in the Washington State University Photographs, Subject File, 1892-1999 (PC 4).

Several oversized rolls of as-built drawings still remain as the Preliminary Guide to the Washington State University Facilities Operations Records (UA2004-02).

Related Materials

MASC holds many sets, too many to number, of records from Facilities Planning and its related departments over the history of the university. These can be found listed on the University Archives collections and accessions lists.
