Biographical Note
Patricia K. Ourada joined the faculty of Boise State University's History Department in 1962. Following her retirement in 1993, she was recognized with emeritus status.
Born in Menominee, Michigan in 1926, Ourada's early interest in the Menominee Native American tribe developed into a career-long passion for the study of Native American culture and advocacy for tribal rights. Her research interests extended likewise to other minority groups in Idaho and the United States.
Among many accomplishments at Boise State, Dr. Ourada was faculty advisor to Dama-Soghop, the club for Native American Students, and she organized the annual American Indian Institute series. Additionally she served as consultant to the Idaho Inter-Tribal Policy Board. In 1975 Ourada created a History of Sports course at Boise State and she is the author of the 1990 book The Broncos: An Illustrated History of Athletics at Boise State University.
Patricia Ourada died in Boise on August 31, 2006.
