Historical Note

Stein, a composer and arranger, worked with various orchestras during the 1930s and 1940s. He was a staff composer for Universal Pictures from 1951-1958, where he wrote music for numerous motion pictures, including the Ma and Pa Kettle series, the Abbott and Costello series, the Francis the Talking Mule series, "It Came from Outer Space" (1953), "Creature from the Black Lagoon" (1954), "Destry" (1954), "Revenge of the Creature" (1955), and "The Incredible Shrinking Man" (1957).

Content Description

Scope and Content

Collection contains scores for Universal Pictures productions of the 1950s and audio recordings of many of those productions. Also included is the score for an episode of the TV series "M Squad" (1957-1960), the score and script for "Career for Two" (1951), an industrial short film, as well as recordings of the music for that film, and materials related to "The Intruder" (1962), a film directed by Roger Corman and scored by Stein.
