Content DescriptionReturn to Top
The collection consists of two individual sets of materials, totalling approximately 2000 images. One set appears to originate with the college of Veterinary Medicine. A significant quantity deals with groundbreaking, construction, and dedication of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Animal Disease Biotechnology Facility, as well as visits by Betty White. These materials seems to be in the 1980s to 2000s range, and are mostly photographic prints, with a smaller portion of negatives and slides. The second set contains materials originating with Dr. Gordon Keown, consisting of slides, negative strips, and five reels of super 8 film. These materials appear to date from the 1950s and 1960s. They appear to deal with his equine research, treatments, and teaching, and require evaluation as to archival value.

Arrangement
This is an unprocessed collection. Any arrangement reflects either a pre-existing order from the records' creators or previous custodians, or preliminary sorting performed by staff.
The second box contains the Gordon Keown materials, while the first box contains the remainder. In Keown's materials, there are few dates, but perhaps half the slides are individually labeled, usually with an equine condition or disease. In the Veterinary school materials, items are rarely labeled but many are in labeled and dated folders.
Location of Collection
(MASC STAFF USE) 3-18-06-5Acquisition Information
Donated to WSU MASC by Charlie Powell, retiring Public Information Officer for the WSU college of Veterinary Medicine, on 2022-09-08.
Processing Note
The collection needs appraisal (the second box in particular), but it seems likely that the two boxes should be processed as separate collections. We might consider processing the first box (VetMed materials) jointly with UPC 2021-03.
Separated Materials
The materials received from the donor at MASC at the time of this donation were split into three sets - this one, VetMed Videos and DVDs (UA 2022-07) and Vet Med Subject Files (Archives 406).
Related Materials
WSU MASC holds a number of collections related to WSU Veterinary Medicine, photographic and otherwise.
