Historical Note

Mads Christensen was a Danish convert to the LDS Church. He became a polygamist and was arrested for unlawful cohabitation on 13 February 1888. He served a seven month prison term.

Content Description

The Mads Christensen papers (1869-1913) consist of an autograph book (1887-1888) given to Christensen by fellow LDS polygamist prisoners in the Utah Penitentiary. The autographs are mostly poems, although some of the ninety-one authors just signed their names and addresses. The papers also consist of Christensen's citizenship certificate, a letter, and biographical materials. Phyllis Christensen's biographies (undated) of Mads Christensen and Hannah Margretta Christiansen Christensen are also included.

    This folder contains a certificate of citizenship (1869), a biographical sketch (circa 1914) by Christensen (missing the first 2 pages), and a letter (1913) written by a nephew.
