Campus Directories, 1912-2014

Series 1 consists of one bound volume with 9 issues of the C-P Journal, which was published 2-4 times per academic year by students in commerce and pharmacy. The bulk of the publication consists of articles pertaining to commerce; business, industry, and marketing; and pharmacies and pharmaceuticals. The directory of students and faculty is in the back of each issue and includes names and a street address or office location and a phone number. These publications also include a few local advertisements.

Series 2 consists of a bound volume of the Commercial Print with 8 issues published in November 1915 thru February 1920 and two un-bound issues published in October 1919 and October 1920. The Commercial Print was published by students in the School of Commerce. Like the C-P Journal that preceded it, this directory also includes a few articles at the beginning of each issue that is followed by a student directory with names, phone numbers, and addresses and a faculty and staff directory that includes office and laboratory locations. This publication includes advertisements from local businesses. The Commercial Print was published once or twice each academic year.

Series 3 consists of a selection of directories published between February 1921 and February 1927 and includes one or more directories for the academic years 1920/1921, 1922/1923, 1924/1925, 1925/1926, and 1926/1927. It does not include any directories for the 1923/1924 academic year. This directory continued to be published twice a year by the students of School of Commerce. The contents of the directory changes during this time period; there are fewer articles and by the mid-1920s no articles; directories include a registration report with the number of students enrolled at OAC and associated demographic data, a college calendar with key university events, and a list of oganizations, fraternities, and sororities. The directory portion includes names, addresses, and phone numbers as well as office locations for faculty. A list of advertisers is included and advertisements from local businesses are printed throughout the directory. One issue in this series is available online.

Series 4 consists of several issues of the Student Directory, which was published in the fall and winter of each academic year. While the title changed with the Fall 1927 issue, the contents are largely the same as the OAC Directory. Each issue includes a calendar of events; lists of fraternities, sororities, women's and men's living organizations, clubs, and activities; directory information for students and faculty; and advertisements from local businesses.

Series 5 is comprised of issues of the Fussers' Guide which was published twice per year (in fall and winter) through the 1940s and then annually in the fall beginning with the 1949/1950 academic year. This series includes a complete run of the annual directory for the academic years 1965/1966 through 1996/1997. The series does not include directories for the 1959/1960, 1960/1961, 1961/1962, and 1964/1965 academic years. During this period, the directory continued to include information about Oregon State events and organizations, lists of students and employees, and advertising. Beginning in the 1960s, advertising was printed on yellow pages in a separate section of the publication. The Fussers' Guide was published by the local chapters of Sigma Delta Chi (men's journalism professional fraternity), Theta Sigma Phi (women's journalism professional fraternity), and Alpha Delta Sigma (advertising fraternity) beginning in the 1940s. Responsibility for publication shifted to Student Publications in 1983. "Fussing" was a slang term at Oregon State for dating; the title Fussers' Guide referred to the use of the directory as a way for students to make social connections with one another.

Series 6 consists of directories published with the title Campus Directory, beginning with the directory published for the 1997/1998 academic year. These directories include frequently used phone numbers, lists of university buildings, and information about student organizations, fraternities and sororities, and campus activities. During this period, the Campus Directory consisted of four major sections: green pages with lists of administrators, colleges, and departments and a faculty and staff directory; orange pages with a retiree directory; yellow pages with advertising; and white pages with the student directory.
