Historical Note
Perry Jenkins was a college professor of astronomy. After being advised by physicians that he had only months to live in 1905, Jenkins relocated to Wyoming and eventually regained his health as a ranch hand and ultimately as an independent rancher. He operated a ranch in Cora, Wyoming. Jenkins served on the Wyoming Legislature for a decade before becoming Senate president in 1927. Additionally, he served on the executive committee of the American National Livestock Association and founded its magazine called The Producer. Jenkins also founded and named Sublette County in Wyoming and was a member of both Masonic lodges in Pinedale and Big Piney. Jenkins had a scholarly interest in and studied the southwestern corner of Wyoming. Towards the end of his life, Jenkins was awarded a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Wyoming.
