Historical Note

The Office of Advancement coordinates the university's relationships with alums, donors, and other community partners. It includes departments of Advancement, University Relations, Development, and Strategy and Operations. The name and scope of the office has shifted significantly over the course of the university's history. It has previously been called the Office of Development, Major Gifts, Gift Planning, Annual Giving, Alumni and Parent Relations, and University Relations.

This includes gift and donor records, planning and program materials from Alumni Weekend and other gatherings of alums, and class notes and newsletters.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

The collection is arranged into two series: I. Alumni Relations; and II. Development. The Alumni Relations series is further arranged into three subseries: I. Administrative materials; II. Class notes; and III. Information about Alums. The Development series is further arranged into two subseries: I. Administrative materials; and II. Donor files and gift records.

Additions to these records are expected as records become inactive.

Planning materials for large-scale university fundraising campaigns, such as the Campaign for Willamette and the Sesquicentennial Campaign, are located in the Office of the President records.

Processing Note

This collection has been processed and described at a folder level. The materials have been reboxed and refoldered for preservation, maintaining original folder titles and internal folder arrangements where possible.

The description uses "alum" or "alums" throughout in place of "alumni" as a gender-neutral term for graduates of the university, except when "alumni" or another term is used as the title of an organization or event.
