Historical NoteReturn to Top

The University of Wyoming Alumni Association was established March 26, 1895. The objective of the association was to create a feeling of allegiance and fellowship among graduates of the University of Wyoming as well as to advance the overall well being, growth, achievement and integrity of the University.

The first positions to be held within the association were honorary chairman, occupied by University of Wyoming graduate D. C. Abrams, along with temporary secretary, filled by graduate Retta Oviatt. The chair then appointed a committee of three graduates, C. D. Oviatt, Nellie Johnson, and Mamie Whiting for the purpose of permanent organization, along with the creation of the constitution and by-laws.

Under the instruction of the Alumni Association president, Dr. S. H. Knight, the first University of Wyoming homecoming was held in 1922. The first magazine associated with the alumni was published in February 1921, also during Knight’s presidency.
