Administrative Information

Arrangement

The slides are housed in slide sheets, each holding up to 20 slides. Most slides each are housed in their original sheets. These sheets were combined and organized into several series which are organized alphabetically by geographic region. The few non-geographic materials, as well as unidentified images, are located at the end. A second accession of slides came not in sheets but in boxes; these were placed in sheets and grouped according to which box they came from. Dates are given in the folder descriptions below only for original photographs, and only where they could be determined.

Acquisition Information

James Dunne purchased these slides at at Jim Baenen’s estate sale in Lynnwood, WA on June 13th, 2019. He donated this collection to the Washington State University Libraries’ Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) on August 24th, 2020, where they were retained as UPC 20-02.

A second set of slides came to WSU via the American Philosophical Society which had in turn purchased them from James Dunne on eBay in November 2023.

Processing Note

University Archivist Mark O’English processed this collection in January, 2021. The slides were originally received as six slide carousels (each holding up to 140 slides), three plastic slide cases (each up to 36 slides), twenty-one small boxes of slides (each up to 40 slides), and 22 loose sheets of slides (each up to 20 slides). Those not already in slide sheets were rehoused, making every attempt to retain their original order. All materials were retained in processing, excepting one sheet labeled “dark” which was too dark to be usable, one sheet of Smithsonian exhibit photographs, and one sheet of modern and unrelated motorcycle images.

Additional processing by Will Gregg, Manuscripts Librarian, in 2024. Will interfiled and expanded on the order maintained by Mark to accomodate a group of new slides.
