Content Description

The Frank and Alice Warren's photo albums include photographs of several trips to Yellowstone National Park between the years 1924 and 1938. The photos document the scenery in and around Yellowstone, people, and scenery around the park. They include a mix of personal photographs and collected photo prints and postcards from the park. Several photos include the initials FMW, indicating that Frank Warren took the personal photos included in the collection, although many are undated and many of the individuals are unidentified. The collected postcards and photo prints were sold locally in Yellowstone by Jack Haynes and other gallery owners. Alice or Frank most likely created these hand-crafted photo albums. The albums depict landscapes, wildlife, friends, family, and other scenic views in and around the State of Montana.

Close friends of Jack and Isabel Haynes, the album includes photos of the Haynes family, including several of Lida Haynes as a child. It also features two 1934 photographs of Roger W. Toll Jr., the son of the American mountaineer, writer, and Yellowstone National Park superintendent Roger W. Toll. Also, included in the collection is an image of Captain C.F. Culler, who served as District Supervisor of the Bureau of Fisheries. One album depicts a trip to Mount Rushmore before it was completed. At the time they visited in 1934, only George Washington's sculpture was complete.
