Alice (Rockwell) Warren was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1881. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1904. She was known for establishing the Warren Lectureship at the University of Minnesota School of Mine and Metallurgy. Alice served as the education department chairman for the Minnesota Federation of Women's Clubs and was the first woman appointed to the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents (1922). She died in 1962 at the age of 81.

Frank Merton Warren was born in 1875. He graduated from of the School of Mines, University of Minnesota, and eventually worked as the chairman of the Water and Waterways Committee under the Division of Conservation and Natural Resources in Minnesota. He also served as the secretary of the Isle Royale Citizens' Committee from 1926 to 1929. Frank died in 1946 at the age of 71.

Frank and Alice Warren married in 1908 and lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They both advocated for the creation of the Isle Royale National Park in Michigan and donated their second home to the park. They visited Yellowstone National Park on several occasions, spending time with Jack E. Haynes and his family. The Warrens were friends with Haynes and his wife Isabel, who owned Haynes Inc., a photography business in Yellowstone. Jack Haynes's daughter, Lida, referred to Frank as "Uncle Frank," indicating a close relationship between the two families. The Warrens were avid travelers visiting states all over America along with several other countries.

The Frank and Alice Warren's photo albums include photographs of several trips to Yellowstone National Park between the years 1924 and 1938. The photos document the scenery in and around Yellowstone, people, and scenery around the park. They include a mix of personal photographs and collected photo prints and postcards from the park. Several photos include the initials FMW, indicating that Frank Warren took the personal photos included in the collection, although many are undated and many of the individuals are unidentified. The collected postcards and photo prints were sold locally in Yellowstone by Jack Haynes and other gallery owners. Alice or Frank most likely created these hand-crafted photo albums. The albums depict landscapes, wildlife, friends, family, and other scenic views in and around the State of Montana.

Close friends of Jack and Isabel Haynes, the album includes photos of the Haynes family, including several of Lida Haynes as a child. It also features two 1934 photographs of Roger W. Toll Jr., the son of the American mountaineer, writer, and Yellowstone National Park superintendent Roger W. Toll. Also, included in the collection is an image of Captain C.F. Culler, who served as District Supervisor of the Bureau of Fisheries. One album depicts a trip to Mount Rushmore before it was completed. At the time they visited in 1934, only George Washington's sculpture was complete.
