Historical Note

Leslie Herman (L.H.) Klahn Jr. served in the Vietnam War. After his service, he studied at the University of Wyoming. During the war, Leslie sent letters home to his parents, as well as to his wife and other family members. He sent postcards and photographs along with his letters when he could, mostly from his time in Hawaii. He served from 1961 until 1968, and by 1971 had moved to Laramie, Wyoming to continue his education. His father, Leslie Herman Klahn Sr., served in the United States Navy in World War II. During his service Klahn Sr. was awarded two Navy Training Course Certificates. He was also promoted to Corporal of the State of Oregon National Guard in 1940. The Klahn family lived in Aurora, Colorado after Leslie Sr. returned from World War II.

This collection contains personal correspondence from L.H. Klahn Jr. to his parents while serving in Vietnam. Also included are photographs, certificates and VA documents for his father L.H. Klahn Sr., and maps of South Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
