Historical Note

Known as the “father of conservation” in Arkansas, Harold E. Alexander (1909-1993) began his career with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in 1942 as a field biologist. After a stint as a medical illustrator, Alexander returned to the AGFC as chief biologist and head of research and specialized in stream preservation. He retired in 1976 after much groundbreaking work in the developing wildlife management field between 1950 and 1980.
