Known as the “father of conservation” in Arkansas, Harold E. Alexander (1909-1993) began his career with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in 1942 as a field biologist. After a stint as a medical illustrator, Alexander returned to the AGFC as chief biologist and head of research and specialized in stream preservation. He retired in 1976 after much groundbreaking work in the developing wildlife management field between 1950 and 1980.
Collection contains articles, reprints, and speeches spanning the years of 1965 to 1971 by Alexander about Arkansas conservation, streams, and wetlands.
There are no access restrictions on the materials for research purposes, and the collection is open to the public.
