- The Montana Association for the Blind was founded in 1946 as a statewide nonprofit self-help organization to assist blind and partially sighted people. Historical Note
The Montana Association for the Blind was incorporated in 1946 as a non-profit organization. Its aims as stated in its constitution are "to work for the prevention of blindness, to aid in the physical restoration of the blind, to aid in providing vocational rehabilitation for the blind, and to work for the social and economic improvement of every blind person in the state." Over the years, the association has sponsored the Montana Summer School for the Adult Blind and its successor the Summer Orientation Program for the Blind and Partially Sighted, interest-free loans, a business enterprise program, scholarships, and the White Cane Drive.

Records include minutes (1952-1992) of the annual convention and of the board of directors; budgets (1961-1970, 1986-1993); treasurers' reports (1963-1992); constitution and bylaws (1964-1992); and subject files on the Memorial Loan Fund, the Montana Summer School for the Adult Blind and its successor the Summer Orientation Program for the Blind and Partially Sighted, and the White Cane Drive.
