Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Washington State University (WSU) Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was established in 1971 by President Glenn Terrell with the intention of creating and maintaining a safe and equitable institutional environment for women at WSU. The CSW acts as an information agency that presents data and recommendations to the President and Executive Vice President for policy formation. It is concerned with various women’s issues such as maternity leave, childcare, athletics, sexual harassment and assault, salary equity, leadership, career opportunities, and race and ethnicity in relation to women in the WSU community. The CSW consists of voting members representing multiple WSU campuses and includes faculty, administrative/professional and classified staff, undergraduate students, and graduate students.

Arrangement

Items are arranged alphabetically by subject, then arranged chronologically within those for folders containing similar materials such as correspondence, guidelines, etc.

Acquisition Information

This is fundamentally two sets of materials.

Marian Horton donated the 2009-2012 materials to the Washington State University Libraries’ Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections in Sept. 2012, and those were retained as UA2012-09.

The remaining materials apparently simply found on top of a shelf in the archives at an earlier date, with no record on when/where they came from. The two sets of materials were combined in 2012.

Processing Note

Ph.D. student Stephanie Mahar processed this collection in July of 2022.
