Historical Note

The Washington State University (WSU) Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was established in 1971 by President Glenn Terrell with the intention of creating and maintaining a safe and equitable institutional environment for women at WSU. The CSW acts as an information agency that presents data and recommendations to the President and Executive Vice President for policy formation. It is concerned with various women’s issues such as maternity leave, childcare, athletics, sexual harassment and assault, salary equity, leadership, career opportunities, and race and ethnicity in relation to women in the WSU community. The CSW consists of voting members representing multiple WSU campuses and includes faculty, administrative/professional and classified staff, undergraduate students, and graduate students.
