The Northwest Mining Association (NWMA) was organized in Spokane in 1895 and has served as a lobbying and information organization in support of the mining and smelting interests of the Inland Empire. The Association, through research and the publication of its bulletins, monitors and interprets national, state, and local legislation that creates an impact on the mining and metallurgy industry.

Theme “How Man Can Live, Work, and Play in Harmony With His Environment” – mining exhibit within this. NWMA coordinating raising $100,000 for this exhibit for May-October, 1974. Design and description of exhibit. Letters to companies asking for financial support for exhibit and replies. Russell Chadwick President. NWMA also organized help in constructing for Folklife Festival a working display of mine timbering, track laying, and operating air-driven locomotive and timber cars. Mining week at EXPO was September 30- October 6. Letters go back to early 1973 in making plans for EXPO.
