She taught French literature at the University of Wisconsin and Utah State University (USU), where she also developed a France Summer Abroad program. Goodhart was honored with several academic awards, including USU Professor of the Year in 1990. Her scholarly work, particularly on French poets, earned international recognition, and she held various prestigious fellowships.
