Biographical NoteReturn to Top

The Hanoi-born scholar has taught Vietnamese lingusistics, literature and culture at several institutions of higher learning (Universities of Saigon, Hue and Dalat, Columbia University, the University of Washington (1965-1966), the University of Hawaii, San Jose State University, Mission College). Between 1969 and 1990, Nguyen served as Associate Director, then Director of the Southern Illinois University Center for Vietnamese Studies. In 1981-82 he served as a Fulbright Lecturer in English and Linguistics at the Centre Pedagogique Regional in Rabat, Morocco. Professor Nguyen has authored several phrase books, textbooks and dictionaries, as well as many book reviews, articles and essays in journals and encyclopedias.
