In 2023, the University of Montana established a Book Arts Program which utilizes a test press for teaching opportunities. This press, since named the Bear Scratch Press, produces student works and limited productions for university related events and materials. The first practicum class utilizing the press occurred in the Fall of 2023.

Custodial History

The materials in this collection were created by the University of Montana's Bear Scratch Press and were in the custody of David Axelrod (founder of Bear Scratch Press and Professor of Letterpress Printing) until their transfer to Archives and Special Collection.

Acquisition Information

University of Montana professor David Axelrod transferred the materials to Archives and Special Collections in September of 2023.

Future additions to the collection are expected.

During processing, materials were housed in an archival-grade folder.
