Historical Note

The Office of Business Services and Contracts at Central Washington University was established in 1972. Prior to that date the duties it performs were split between the College Controller and Business System Analyst in the Business Office. The office currently provides services related to contracting, real property management, inventory management, surplus operations, centralized management of insurance programs and environmental, health and safety operations. The office operates as a department of the Division of Business and Financial Affairs.

Content Description

The files in this collection contain records related to property purchases and rentals by Central Washington State College, employment and personnel issues, and student fees and governance. Included in the files are Employee Council meeting minutes (1970-1992), Higher Education Personnel Board meeting minutes (1970-1977), and reports from the various departments in the Business and Financial Affairs Office.

Historical Background

Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
