Biographical Note
Frederica (Freda) Christina Schorr was born on June 15, 1891, to John Sebastian Schorr and Minnie Hegelweide. Freda spent her early childhood on her family's homestead, which was settled between Mason Lake and the Hood Canal under the Homestead Act during the administration of Grover Cleveland. She married Benjamin Graham Morris (date unknown), and in the early years of their marriage they operated a general store on Spirit Lake at the foot of Mount St. Helens. They later moved to the University District in Seattle and then to Kirkland. During this time, Freda remembers spending time in downtown Seattle and seeing Chief Seattle's daughter, Princess Angeline, selling baskets on a street corner. In the 1940's they moved to the South Court Apartments in Bremerton, Washington, which have since been razed. Freda C. Morris died on August 17, 1985.
