Historical Note

Brookings, Oregon, had its origins in Native American villages and, in the 1850s, gold mining. In 1900, the land was acquired by William Ward in the name of the Brookings Box and Lumber Company of St. Louis, Missouri (later merged with the California and Oregon Lumber Company).
