Biographical Note

Conservationist of Seattle, Washington. Polly Dyer was an activist on conservation issues as the following memberships and leadership roles indicate: Mountaineers Conservation Committee chair for 1957; national board member of the Sierra Club; president, Federation of Western Outdoor Clubs during 1958-1959; Northwest Wilderness Conference; North Cascades Conservation Council. Organized Olympic coastline hikes with William O. Douglas, 1958, 1964. In 1974-1978, Dyer served on the Washington Forest Practices Board. The FPB drafted rules governing the implementation of the Washington State's Forest Practices Act, to insure the future of timber production by requiring reforestation after harvesting. She also worked on the establishment of the North Cascades Conservation Council. Dyer served as the president, Olympic Park Associates, 1989-1994.
