Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Frederick Burt Farquharson was born in Boston and graduated from the University of Washington in 1923. He worked for Boeing from 1923 to 1925, when he left to become a civil engineering professor at the University of Washington. Farquharson studied the Tacoma Narrows Bridge before and after its collapse, contributing to a greater understanding of aerodynamics and improved design for stability on suspension bridges. As director of the University Engineering Experiment Station from 1945 to 1965, he oversaw study of the new bridge as well.
