Summary
The Ruth Newmyer Photograph Collection consists of photographic prints collected by alumna Ruth Newmyer during her student years at Oregon Agricultural College. Mounted on scrapbook pages, these images depict Corvallis buildings and streetscapes, OAC campus views, and Mt. Hood. Newmyer graduated with an undergraduate degree in home economics in 1916. An image from this collection has been digitized and is available in Oregon Digital.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Ruth Newmyer was born in Nebraska in 1894 and resided in the communty of Chemawa, Oregon before entering Oregon Agricultural College in 1912. At OAC, Ruth studied home economics and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1916. Aside from her studies, Ruth was active in the campus YWCA group and the women's hockey team, serving as captain.

In 1917, Newmyer married fellow OAC graduate, Armond Taylor and together they raised one son, Armond Clark Taylor.

Ruth died in 1987.

The Ruth Newmyer Photograph Collection consists of photographic prints collected by alumna Ruth Newmyer during her student years at Oregon Agricultural College (OAC). The images, which are mounted on scrapbook pages, consist of commercially produced snapshots that depict buildings on the OAC campus, Corvallis buildings and streetscapes, and Mount Hood (Or.). Of the 25 prints in this collection, 20 show OAC views, 4 capture Corvallis streetscapes, and 1 depicts Mount Hood. One image from this collection that has been digitized and is available online in Oregon Digital depicts the First Presbyterian Church in Corvallis, circa 1910.

Acquisition Information

The materials were donated to the University Archives in 2000 by Ruth Newmyer's son, Armond Taylor.
