Historical NoteReturn to Top
The departments which became the College of Engineering and Architecture at Washington State University were in place when the school opened in 1892, with the first graduates in 1897. In 1946, a reorganization established the Washington State Institute of Technology as the entity which included the academic departments as the College of Engineering, the School of Mines, the Division of Industrial Research and the Division of Industrial Service. The Institute was again reorganized in July 1966 into a College of Engineering with academic departments, a Research Division and a Technical Extension Service. In 1984, it was redefined as the College of Engineering and Architecture.

The collection is organized in subject files, arranged alphabetically. Within those subject files, the photographs are retained in the original order in which MASC received them.
This collection was transferred to the Washington State University (WSU) Libraries' Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) on January 2nd, 1991 by Kathleen Warren of WSU's College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA). It was accessioned as UA1990-37.
This collection was processed by University Archivist Mark O'English in February, 2017. Images were refoldered during processing, but within each folder they were retained in the original order in which they were received. A few duplicates were discarded during processing, and two oversized images were discarded after being digitized and reprinted to fit 8.5” by 11” sheets.
Two oversized scrapbooks were separated out from these photographs, and have been processed as UA90-37.
MASC holds a few other sets of photographs from the College of Engineering and Architecture. PC 143 is over 100,000 images from 1946-2000, and PC 144 consists of over 4,000 photographs from 1964-1987. MASC also holds a 1926 College of Engineering scrapbook as PC 94.
