Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Dr. Joseph David Leuty (1874-1955) was a physician in Farmington, Washington where he lived with his wife, Charlotta Pearl Rector Leuty (1878-1973). They were married on January 9, 1901 and had four children, only two of whom lived to adulthood. In 1900, the Washington State Medical Examining Board granted Leuty his license to practice medicine in Whitman County, Washington. Following this, Leuty completed medical courses at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School (1906-1910) and the New York Polyclinic Medical School and Hospital (1910-1911). He was later elected a fellow of the Washington State Medical Association in May 1927 after being a member in good standing for 20 years.

Dr. Leuty's wife, Charlotta Pearl Rector Leuty, was born in Nez Perce County, Idaho to Enoch Rector (1845-1916) and Ora Alice Young Rector (1859-1926). Her father, Enoch Rector, served in the Nez Perce War and received an honorable discharge. Charlotta had at least one sibling, Osbert H. Rector (1876-1946), who attended the Washington State School for the Deaf in Vancouver, Washington. Her grandmother was Sarah D. Hiteshew Young (1830-1922), and she was related to Hiram S. Young.

Hiram S. Young was a private of Captain McCarric's company "G", second regiment of volunteers of the territory of Idaho. He enlisted in 1877 and served during the Bannock War until he was honorably discharged. Young was married to Rebecca M. Price Young (1852-1890) on December 23, 1875, with Enoch and Ora Rector as witnesses.
