Dr. Joseph David Leuty (1874-1955) was a physician in Farmington, Washington where he
lived with his wife, Charlotta Pearl Rector Leuty (1878-1973). They were married on
January 9, 1901 and had four children, only two of whom lived to adulthood. In 1900,
the Washington State Medical Examining Board granted Leuty his license to practice
medicine in Whitman County, Washington. Following this, Leuty completed medical
courses at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School (1906-1910) and the New York
Polyclinic Medical School and Hospital (1910-1911). He was later elected a fellow of
the Washington State Medical Association in May 1927 after being a member in good
standing for 20 years.

Dr. Leuty's wife, Charlotta Pearl Rector Leuty, was born in Nez Perce County, Idaho
to Enoch Rector (1845-1916) and Ora Alice Young Rector (1859-1926). Her father,
Enoch Rector, served in the Nez Perce War and received an honorable discharge.
Charlotta had at least one sibling, Osbert H. Rector (1876-1946), who attended the
Washington State School for the Deaf in Vancouver, Washington. Her grandmother was
Sarah D. Hiteshew Young (1830-1922), and she was related to Hiram S. Young.

Hiram S. Young was a private of Captain McCarric's company "G", second regiment of
volunteers of the territory of Idaho. He enlisted in 1877 and served during the
Bannock War until he was honorably discharged. Young was married to Rebecca M. Price
Young (1852-1890) on December 23, 1875, with Enoch and Ora Rector as witnesses.

This collection consists of correspondence, certificates, photographs, deeds,
financial and legal papers, and other papers relating to the Leuty, Rector, and
Young families of Farmington, Washington.

The Leuty family papers include Dr. Joseph David Leuty's medical diplomas and
certificates, deeds, indentures, and stock certificates. Records from his wife's
time spent as a member of the Farmington, Washington Fortnightly Club are included.
These consist of Fortnightly Club yearbooks, a photograph, and a program providing
details of each meeting the club held.

The Rector family papers contain Charlotta's school report cards and drawings from a
school examination, wedding announcements, deeds, correspondence, and papers
pertaining to Osbert and Enoch Rector. Osbert's papers include eight notebooks,
dating 1892-1897, from his years spent at the Washington State School for the Deaf
in Vancouver, Washington. The notebooks contain letters addressed to his parents. It
also includes an autograph album given to Osbert on December 25, 1891. Enoch's
papers consist of records from the Nez Perce War and letters addressed to his wife,
Ora Alice Young Rector, from a number of correspondents, regarding Enoch's honorable
discharge. Additionally, documents from the Farmington Public School provide a
history of Lizzie Rector, who graduated from the school in 1896.

The Young family papers consist of deeds, indentures, stock certificates, and
materials relating to Hiram S. Young. His papers include an honorable discharge
certificate following his service in the Bannock War, tax receipts, stock
certificates, and a notice of his wife's death.
