Historical NoteReturn to Top
Mazie O. Giustina (1894-1997) was born near Kelso, Washington. She married George Giustina in 1914.
Giustina attended public schools in Kelso, Washington, the YWCA Business College in Portland, Oregon, and earned a bachelor's degree in 1948 from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. In 1910, she became the first telephone operator at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in Kelso. She was also a partner with her husband in Giustina Brothers Lumber Company in Eugene.
Civically, she was a member of the Republican Women, the Fortnightly Club of Eugene, and Friends of the Library, and a lifetime member of many historical societies. She was the secretary for the Civic Music Association from 1945 to 1948, and was an active member of the Very Little Theatre.
She also donated funds to the Center for the Study of Women in Society (CSWS) at the University of Oregon. Her gift created an endowment that provides funding for research projects related to women in the Northwest.
