         <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">Mazie O. Giustina (1894-1997) was a graduate of the University of Oregon and lifelong member of numerous Oregon civic clubs and historical societies.  The collection consists of diaries, correspondence, personal writings, financial documents, scrapbooks, ephemera, photographs, artifacts, audio tape reels and some published material.</abstract>

         <p>Collection is open to the public. Collection must be used in Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room. Collection or parts of collection may be stored offsite. Please contact Special Collections and University Archives in advance of your visit to allow for transportation time. Access to these materials is governed by repository policy and may require the production of listening or viewing copies.          <p>Mazie O. Giustina (1894-1997) was born near Kelso, Washington. She married George Giustina in 1914. </p>
         <p>Giustina attended public schools in Kelso, Washington, the YWCA Business College in Portland, Oregon, and earned a bachelor's degree in 1948 from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. In 1910, she became the first telephone operator at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in Kelso. She was also a partner with her husband in Giustina Brothers Lumber Company in Eugene. </p>
         <p>Civically, she was a member of the Republican Women, the Fortnightly Club of Eugene, and Friends of the Library, and a lifetime member of many historical societies. She was the secretary for the Civic Music Association from 1945 to 1948, and was an active member of the Very Little Theatre.</p>
         <p>She also donated funds to the Center for the Study of Women in Society (CSWS) at the University of Oregon. Her gift created an endowment that provides funding for research projects related to women in the Northwest. </p>

         <p>The collection consists of journals, correspondence, personal writings, manuscripts, published and other printed material, financial documents, scrapbooks, ephemera, photographs, artifacts, and an audio tape reel. The bulk of the collection consists of a set of daily-written journals by Mazie Giustina along with her collection of travel writings and souvenirs. Correspondence covers a variety of topics including the Giustina Brothers Lumber Company, the Republican Party, and various historical societies to which Mazie Giustina belonged. Box 36 contains restricted financial material.</p>
