Biographical Note

Charles Asa Jones was born on February 4, 1914 in Charter Oak, Iowa. He earned an undergraduate degree at Drake University in 1935 and received a Master of Arts degree at Iowa State University in 1938. Jones completed a doctoral degree in Speech in 1953 at Northwestern University. He began his teaching career in 1938 as a school teacher in Iowa but this was interrupted by the Second World War in 1942. In the fall of 1946, after a short period as an instructor of English at Mesa College, he joined the Washington State University faculty. Until his retirement in 1979, Jones served as Professor of Speech and Drama at Washington State University. A member of both the Speech and Communication Association and the American Theatre Association, Jones' main interests are in children's theatre and creative dramatics.

Content Description

Material in the collection includes memoranda and bulletins pertaining to the department staff and its meetings, curriculum information, long range theatre plans, papers of a search committee, proposals of projects, and letters by and to Maynard Lee Daggy. Present also are detailed accounting data from some dramatic productions. The Daggy letters date back to 1944-45, and some material was generated in the 1950s and 1960s, but the collection bulks largest from 1968-1976.
