Charles Asa Jones was born on February 4, 1914 in Charter Oak, Iowa.
He earned an undergraduate degree at Drake University in 1935 and received a
Master of Arts degree at Iowa State University in 1938. Jones completed a
doctoral degree in Speech in 1953 at Northwestern University. He began his
teaching career in 1938 as a school teacher in Iowa but this was interrupted by
the Second World War in 1942. In the fall of 1946, after a short period as an
instructor of English at Mesa College, he joined the Washington State
University faculty. Until his retirement in 1979, Jones served as Professor of
Speech and Drama at Washington State University. A member of both the Speech
and Communication Association and the American Theatre Association, Jones' main
interests are in children's theatre and creative dramatics.
