Biographical Note

Richard D. Scheuerman was raised near Endicott, Washington and served as a public school teacher and administrator for twenty-five years. He currently serves as chair of the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Seattle Pacific University (SPU) and associate director of the SPU Center for Global Curriculum Studies.

Historical Note

The Volga Germans are ethnic Germans who settled along the Volga River in southeastern Russia in the 18th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries many immigrated to the United States, settling in a number of states, including Washington, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Content Description

The Richard D. Scheuerman Volga German Papers contain correspondence, family history materials, community and family history documents, reports and articles, and Richard D. Scheuerman’s Russian research papers. The materials concern the Scheuerman family as well as other families from the Yagodnaya Polyana (Berry Meadow) area of the Volga region in Russia. These families were originally from Germany, moved to Russia in the 18th century and then immigrated to the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries, many settling in Eastern Washington. Collection documentation is found in Box 5.
