Biographical Note
Colleen Chartier, a Seattle-based fine art photographer, is an alumni of the University of Washington (class of 1978) with a Master of Fine Arts degree. She primarily focuses on commercial photography but has explored creative routes of photography such as the use of a camera phone. Her artwork has been featured in museum collections including the Seattle Art Museum and the Denver Art Museum.
Historical Background
In 1979, the King County Arts Commission brought together a group of internationally recognized artists to demonstrate how environmentally damaged sites---abandoned gravel pits, surface mines, air strips, and landfills---might be transformed into works of art, called earthworks.
Content Description
14 photographs of earthworks art by various artists, including Robert Morris, Herbert Bayer and Mary Miss, made while the works were under construction. 1 landscape art photographic print.

The earthworks photographs were originally part of manuscript collection 3635-001. In 2019, these photographs along with 1 oversize landscape art photograph were combined to form this visual materials collection of Colleen Chartier photographs.
