Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Edward [Egbert] Roscoe Murrow was born on April 25, 1908, near Greensboro, North Carolina. Prior to his career in broadcasting, for which he is best known, Murrow worked for Emergency Committee in Aid of Displaced Foreign Scholars from 1932-1935. This committee was a part an organization based in Great Britain called the Academic Assistance Council, which would later be known as Society for the Protection of Science and Learning. One of the goals of the organization was to provide employment and refuge for scholars living in Fascist and Communist regimes.
