Carolyn J. Marr is a former librarian at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle, Washington. She is an anthropologist and is known in the Pacific Northwest as an authority on local history, Native American culture, and historic photographs. She has worked with the Chehalis, Suquamish, Tulalip and Makah Tribes on projects involving photographs, oral history and material culture, especially basketry and textiles. Several exhibits have resulted from her work, including “Between Two Worlds: Experiences at the Tulalip Indian Boarding School (1905-1932).” Marr developed her thesis based on the fieldwork present in this collection, titled “A History of Salish Weaving: The Effects of Culture Change on a Textile Tradition” at the University of Denver in 1979.
