This collection contains reproductions of the Sam Morris collection of Nez Perce music recordings. These reel-to-reel copies were produced by the Library of Congress in 1990. The original wax cylinder recordings, 69 in all, were made circa 1897-1912. They are on permanent loan from the Washington State University Libraries to the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

Most of these recordings have been published as part of The Nez Perce Music Archive.

The original wax cylinder recordings were made circa 1897-1912, and are on permanent loan from the Washington State University Libraries to the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

Acquisition Information

The Washington State University Libraries purchased the Sam Morris Collection circa 1989. In 1990, the original wax cylinders were sent to the American Folklife Center at the Library on Congress on permanent loan, and the AFC provided the reel-to-reel reproductions in this collection (MS.1994.34).
