Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Political journalist and writer Shelby Scates (1931-2013) wrote for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Scates was born in Obion County, Tennessee and studied history and philosophy at the University of Washington, graduating in 1954. He authored a number of books including Warren G. Magnuson and the Shaping of Twentieth-Century America (1997), War and Politics by Other Means: A Journalist's Memoir (2000), and Maurice Rosenblatt and the Fall of Joseph McCarthy (2006).
